Soak up the sun

14 Dec

I love finding new cafes and restaurants to try – it keeps life interesting, and in Beijing there are tempting new restaurants constantly springing up around the place! On Saturday we decided to try Le Petit Gourmand, a cafe nestled in Tongli Studios behind Sanlitun Village – and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely and cosy, with tasty, fresh food – it was the perfect place to enjoy a long, lazy Saturday lunch 🙂

With the sun shining it was also a chance for me to take my new shoes out for a walk! hehe 🙂 Apparently a lot of other people decided it was the perfect day for taking photos – there were photographers everywhere! A huge big thank you to my talented (and gorgeous!) friend, Adriana for helping me take these photos. I managed to snap a quick one of her too – isn’t she so cute? Love her headband! See you all again tomorrow 🙂 Continue reading

Beijing Foodies + Little Flower Projects

8 Dec

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I attended a ‘Beijing Foodies’ event at Starfish restaurant. Beijing Foodies is an event held once a month, designed to bring together people who love to try new restaurants and meet new people – and to do it all for a good cause, by raising money at each event for various charities.

This particular foodie event put the spotlight on Little Flower Projects, a not-for-profit organization which my dear friend Malaika helps run. The organization does amazing work providing care to abandoned or sick infants, and education  for older disabled orphans. Volunteers’ efforts and generous donations are the backbone supporting the organzation’s efforts, and it was wonderful to be able to contribute to Malaika and her team and bring a little attention to the work that Little Flower does. If you’d like to check out their blog, click here – you’ll see how cute these kids are!

My outfit for the evening was a combo of my faux fur vest, wet look jeans, and my more stylish pair of winter boots, which I found at 3.3 Mall last year. What do you think of the look? It’s a pity we had to take these photos at night so the quality is not so great, but thank you again to Sally for her valiant efforts to capture it all for me! 🙂

By the way, I have to apologize for the false alarm regarding my blog’s new look… apparently it will take a couple of days to complete the changes, so you (I) will have to be patient! My bad.. haha! See you tomorrow 🙂

Woollen sweater + German Christmas market!

29 Nov

Hello lovely readers! 🙂 I wanted to say a big thank you to those who sent me kind words of support on my nzgirl.co.nz articles, I appreciate it so much!

Here I am wearing one of my new woollen sweaters – a fairly casual outfit I chose for visiting the German Christmas market on Saturday 🙂 The Christmas market is an annual event held at the German Embassy, where you can buy Christmas decorations, slurp cold beer or hot glühwein, make donations or purchases to support local charities, enjoy decorated gingerbread cookies and warm apple cider, and try different kinds of German snacks. That reminds me: fresh-out-of-the-oven pretzels (‘bretzel’) are SO delicious! 😉 It was the first time I’ve really felt like Christmas is getting close – and as you can tell I was pretty excited by the Christmas advent calendar my lovely friend Malaika bought for me, haha! 😉

I really need to get on to my Christmas shopping (can you believe it’s December on Thursday already!). Have you started? Whats your secret to present shopping? I always find it so difficult! 🙂 Well I hope you are having a wonderful start to your Tuesday, and will see you again tomorrow!

Pink sweater + GungHo! Pizza

23 Nov

Last week I was at GungHo! Pizza’s ‘family’ opening, to celebrate the launch of their second branch in Beijing in just one year! Getting into the spirit of things, I wore my brightest pink sweater – well, no actually this was a total accident and became a bit of a joke that night..haha! 😉 Definitely recommend a visit to this joint if you’re in the Lido neighbourhood, they have a great culture of fresh food, friendly service, and attention to detail!

Lunch break for me now! Beijing is bright and sunny but blowing a freezing cold gale… hope you’re wrapped up and warm whereever you are! 🙂

White coat + sushi

16 Nov

Ok I know I might talk about Hatsune a bit too much, but it really is one of the best places in town for amazing sushi and incredible cocktails – and definitely a must for any visitors to Beijing craving a break from delicious-but-oily duck, dumplings, and other Chinese fare! I jump at any excuse to go to Hatsune, so naturally that was the restaurant of choice to take Jussara last week before she left for Shanghai! Mmmm sushiiiiii 😉

I have had this coat in my wardrobe for a while now, but haven’t dared to wear it – wearing white seems to be asking for trouble in a city as polluted ‘foggy’ as Beijing, and this coat is just so soft and pretty! I’m scared to ruin it! haha 🙂 But I managed to avoid being my usual clumsy self and wear it out for dinner without incident, hooray!  Hope you like the pictures 😉

Happy Hump Day all! 🙂

Gold Tee

12 Nov

On our way to dinner last week we felt triumphant in managing to capture a tiny sliver of ‘golden’ light before it disappeared behind the SOHO buildings – owing to the fact that the horizon is inpenetrably blocked by highrises, sunset in Beijing is usually just a gradual darkening! Took Jussara to see the world’s biggest TV at The Place – it’s quite an impressive spectacle all lit up at night 🙂

Anyway, I am totally buzzing right now because I just walked in my very first fashion show!! I have so many pics and a short video to show you, so will post as soon as I have time… man what an exciting experience! 🙂 Now I’m off to be a judge at Beijing’s big Fashionista Party, which should also be a lot of fun! I promise to take lots of photos for you there too, and if you’re in Beijing you should come along!  🙂 Hope you’re all having a great Saturday!

Hooded vest + turtle neck

8 Nov

Tuesday again already – can you believe it! Here are some pictures from our relaxing Sunday, spent mostly eating (haha 😉 ) and enjoying the small glimmer of sunshine that peeked out for two hours. The hooded vest is a favourite piece of mine that I picked up at Zara last year, I’ve almost worn it to death! 🙂

Tonight I’m off to a rehearsal… for something I’ll tell you about soon! Let’s just say I’m really nervous haha 😉 What do you do to help with nerves!? BTW I’m seriously addicted to lemon & honey drinks at the moment, they are soo delicious! Another positive thing about Autumn 😉  Til tomorrow! Continue reading
