Beijing Foodies + Little Flower Projects

8 Dec

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I attended a ‘Beijing Foodies’ event at Starfish restaurant. Beijing Foodies is an event held once a month, designed to bring together people who love to try new restaurants and meet new people – and to do it all for a good cause, by raising money at each event for various charities.

This particular foodie event put the spotlight on Little Flower Projects, a not-for-profit organization which my dear friend Malaika helps run. The organization does amazing work providing care to abandoned or sick infants, and education  for older disabled orphans. Volunteers’ efforts and generous donations are the backbone supporting the organzation’s efforts, and it was wonderful to be able to contribute to Malaika and her team and bring a little attention to the work that Little Flower does. If you’d like to check out their blog, click here – you’ll see how cute these kids are!

My outfit for the evening was a combo of my faux fur vest, wet look jeans, and my more stylish pair of winter boots, which I found at 3.3 Mall last year. What do you think of the look? It’s a pity we had to take these photos at night so the quality is not so great, but thank you again to Sally for her valiant efforts to capture it all for me! 🙂

By the way, I have to apologize for the false alarm regarding my blog’s new look… apparently it will take a couple of days to complete the changes, so you (I) will have to be patient! My bad.. haha! See you tomorrow 🙂

Hooded coat

7 Dec

Another Hump Day has arrived! We are halfway to the weekend already and it is now just over a week until I am on HOLIDAY, hooray! 🙂 I’ve decided to go back to New Zealand for the Christmas break this year which is very exciting as it will be hot and sunny (hopefully).. I can already hear the beach and BBQs calling my name! 😉

Today’s post is a very simple outfit with one of my favourite coats from last year. It is so easy to wear, has big pockets, and a giant hood to keep out any pesky rain – I love this thing! And besides seeing me almost get run over by the dude on the bike (that’s right, being on the footpath doesn’t save you from traffic! haha) how great is the sunshine in these photos…how I wish it had lasted longer than that one day! haha 🙂

In other very exciting news, my wonderful boyfriend has been working with me to create a new look for PhoandChips.. and it should be ready any moment now! This time tomorrow you could be looking at a very different PhoandChips! I am very excited for the new look, as I have been wanting to change things up for a while and give the blog a cleaner, updated look/feel. I will be keen to know your thoughts once it’s all up and running 🙂 Til tomorrow then! 🙂 Continue reading

Alice + Olivia silver sequined jacket

5 Dec

Happy Monday all! 🙂 It’s snowing in Beijing again, with more snow predicted for later in the week.. time to get out those woolly socks and down-jackets! BUT it is starting to feel more and more like Christmas – in fact, someone just sent our office a huge Christmas cake, stoked! 😉

On Saturday night we attended the launch of Lane Crawford and Modern Weekly‘s ‘A plus’ exhibition. The exhibition – curated by Modern Weekly Lifestyle Editorial Director, Shaway Yeh – illustrates a ‘crossover collaboration’ between China’s fashion designers and international artists. It was a lovely evening filled with interesting art and gorgeous garments (too bad I can’t afford any of it.. haha), plus we were treated to a live performance by pianist Rosey Chan.

I have lots of photos from the exhibition that I want to show you, but first I wanted to share some outfit pictures! 🙂 How AMAZING is this silver sequined jacket? I am absolutely in love with it – so glamourous and yet so effortless to wear! Alas, I cannot claim it – it belongs to my very chic friend Sally, who was generous enough to let me wear it for the night (and helped me take these photos)! Obviously, the jacket needed no competition so the rest of the outfit is very simple. What do you think? 🙂

Green sweater

4 Dec

Hey guys, Happy Sunday! 🙂

How has your weekend been? For me, it was another beautiful two days full of friends, food, and fashion (and the odd movie too! Just watched ‘One Day’, so sweet, but so sad!).

Lots of photos to come, but first a few pics of my new sweater! hehe 🙂 I love this dark forest green colour and oversized cut, perfect for winter 🙂 Hope you like the photos, and I’ll see you all again on Monday! 🙂

Leopard print pants!

2 Dec

Today it finally started snowing in Beijing! Winter is really and finally here! 🙂 And to celebrate, here is a post of my new leopard print jeans hehe 🙂 I love these – I totally wasn’t sure when I saw them in the store, but they are actually a more subtle shade than other pairs I’ve seen and are super warm to boot! What do you think of them?

I wore this outfit to watch Beijing Improv’s 5th Birthday show, where two of my friends performed. Have you been to an improv show? The shows are HILARIOUS and the actors are not afraid to look silly in front of an audience! 🙂 I was almost crying from laughing too hard at one point! If you’re in Beijing, I would totally recommend going along to one of their shows – the Penghao Theatre is a cute little place tucked into a hutong off Nanluoguxiang, a great place to explore in it’s own right!

On another note, if you use Weibo (China’s version of Twitter) you can follow me here – I’m able to update and post pictures much more easily/frequently! (I still update Twitter, but since it’s technically blocked it’s a little harder!). Hope you’re having a wonderful Friday, bring on the weekend! 🙂

Leather jacket: H&M / Black sheer shirt: American Apparel / Black tank: H&M / Leopard print jeans: Zara / Wedge booties: Spring / Woollen scarf: no brand (found at ‘i.f’ store near my house) / Bird skull necklace: Fashionology / Nailpolish: Sephora for OPI ‘Mr Right Now’

1 Dec

Hello wonderful people! A happy 1st of December to you all! 🙂

Here are a few more snapshots from the Ritz-Carlton fashion show – and a few shots of my new LBD! Love this thing… comfy with a simple sillouhette, plus the sleeves and skirt length means it would work for either formal or casual occasions – the perfect addition to my wardrobe, and the answer to all future emergency outfit crises! haha 😉

Thank you to all the lovely readers who left comments yesterday – you guys put the biggest smile on my face! See you all again tomorrow 🙂
