A white coat + red lanterns

9 Dec

On a freezing cold but beautifully sunny day, we wandered around Beijing’s wonderful hutongs  – on the hunt (as usual) for somewhere to eat! haha 🙂 These pics were taken around the Beixinqiao area, where the red lanterns hanging outside the restaurants looked so cheerful and happy against the bright blue sky!

My outfit was pretty casual – my big warm Mango jacket, biker boots, and some grey accessories to keep out the wind! This is the winter weather I love best, sunshine and crisp, fresh air 🙂 What are your plans for the weekend? It’s just over two weeks til Christmas, and I need to find something for our staff Secret Santa & Christmas party next week. I think I’m going to check out The Hutong’s Christmas Fayre on Sunday.. maybe I’ll find inspiration there! : ) Happy Friday all!   Continue reading

Beijing Foodies + Little Flower Projects

8 Dec

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I attended a ‘Beijing Foodies’ event at Starfish restaurant. Beijing Foodies is an event held once a month, designed to bring together people who love to try new restaurants and meet new people – and to do it all for a good cause, by raising money at each event for various charities.

This particular foodie event put the spotlight on Little Flower Projects, a not-for-profit organization which my dear friend Malaika helps run. The organization does amazing work providing care to abandoned or sick infants, and education  for older disabled orphans. Volunteers’ efforts and generous donations are the backbone supporting the organzation’s efforts, and it was wonderful to be able to contribute to Malaika and her team and bring a little attention to the work that Little Flower does. If you’d like to check out their blog, click here – you’ll see how cute these kids are!

My outfit for the evening was a combo of my faux fur vest, wet look jeans, and my more stylish pair of winter boots, which I found at 3.3 Mall last year. What do you think of the look? It’s a pity we had to take these photos at night so the quality is not so great, but thank you again to Sally for her valiant efforts to capture it all for me! 🙂

By the way, I have to apologize for the false alarm regarding my blog’s new look… apparently it will take a couple of days to complete the changes, so you (I) will have to be patient! My bad.. haha! See you tomorrow 🙂

Beijing’s 2011 Fashionista Awards!

14 Nov

Every Monday I find my thoughts drifting back to the weekend, and re-living all the fun that was had! Our Saturday evening was all about Beijing fashionistas. Each issue of City Weekend magazine features an inspiring Fashionista on a 2-page spread – people who have been spotted in the crowd as having great individual style, an interesting story, and an engaging personality to match! Stylist and make-up artist MeiLi Autumn is the woman behind these features, and the awards party is an excuse to get-together and celebrate all of Beijing’s finest fashionistas for that year! Last year I was crowned Beijing’s Ms Fashionista 2010 (that was a fun night! 😉 ) and so this year I was excited to be involved as a judge for the 2011 Fashionista Awards!

The event was held at R Lounge in the Renaissance – such a beautiful hotel! What do you think of the outfit I chose? Deciding what to wear is always a last minute mad rush for me.. but I spotted this top at Mango last week, and with its sparkling stars reminscent of Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2011 collection, I was sold! hehe 😉 How was your weekend? Hope you have a wonderful week ahead lovelies! 🙂 Continue reading

Kickin it with Kevin Spacey! ;)

11 Nov

So remember yesterday I said I was going to an exciting event? Well – it was a cocktail function at the Pangu Penthouse held in honour of Kevin Spacey!! He is in Beijing this weekend to perform Shakespeare’s Richard III – and the play’s director is none other than Sam Mendes! It was such an honour to meet him, what a legend! He’s really lovely, such a talented and successful person and still so down to earth 🙂 Congrats to producer DJ Chozie for putting on a great night, and of course thanks for inviting us to join in! 😉

Bedtime for me now… but Friday tomorrow, whoop whoop! See you again soon! 🙂 Continue reading

Autumn leaves + Smushi

3 Nov

Being surrounded by beautiful red, orange, and golden leaves is probably everyone’s favourite thing about Autumn… and it is mine too! 🙂 I have two favourite streets in Beijing, trees-wise (is that weird? haha), the street where I work near Ritan Park, and Dongzhimenwai Street, just north of Sanlitun Village. Every year these two streets turn out the most beautiful display of autumn colours, which I find so distracting every time I pass by on my scooter!

Last Sunday we went to have high tea at the very prettily decorated Royal Smushi House, just by Dongzhimenwai. Yes ‘smushi’ is a odd word, right?! But apparently it’s a Danish open sandwich made the size of a piece of sushi, i.e. mini sandwich + sushi = smushi! Chatting with friends, drinking tea, and eating delicate pastries is not a bad way to pass an afternoon 🙂

Oh and btw, it’s not really cold enough to be wearing woolly hats, I was just bundled up for my scooter! 😉 FRIDAY tomorrow, hooray! See you then folks! 🙂

Denim jacket + infinity scarf

2 Nov

Happy Wednesday! 🙂 The pollution has somewhat dissipated in Beijing and we can breathe again, hooray! 🙂 Here are some pics from the weekend (thanks Jamie!) when I was frantically trying to think of what to wear for Halloween.. always a bad idea – the last remaining witch hats and fairy wands had been snatched up by 8 year olds! 😉

Have I said how much I love wandering around shopping malls in China? You never know what you’re going to see! Check out the couple dancing salsa in the last pic – in the middle of the mall, to advertise face cream! Incredible! Haha well it certainly draws the crowds 🙂

Faux fur vest

24 Oct

Announcement: New Zealand is the 2011 Rugby World Cup Champion!! Hooray! 🙂 It was an incredibly close and nerve-wracking match, with the French side putting on a really good performance, but we just managed to squeeze to a 8-7 victory! I now have no voice or nails left… haha 😉

On to the outfit pics.. oh how I wish it was still warm enough to wear this faux fur vest without layers underneath like I did just last week.. but no, Beijing has suddenly decided: It Is Now Winter! I wore this to lunch with Sally – we were trying out this new place ‘Obentos‘ which does healthy Japanese food and Bento boxes! It’s also owned by a friend so that made it even more exciting 🙂 The food was so yummy and made me miss Japan – I was there for Christmas last year and ate almost nonstop the whole trip!

Back to the outfit… these boots are the charcoal version of the ones I wore in last week’s post, they’re so comfy (believe it or not!) and go so well with all my skinny jeans 🙂 And although we tried to hide it, what you can see in the background is not cloud but mild smog (yes mild – you should have seen it yesterday!)… isn’t it lovely!? :S Hope you all had a great weekend! 🙂
